Back in the Saddle Again!
Today was the most beautiful day EVER in Alabama. Not too hot...not too cold...just PERFECT. So I decided, with some serious encouragement from Russ, that today was the day to "get back on the horse". That's right! It has been 2 1/2 years since my bike wreck and I FINALLY braved the bike today. It was SO scary! I was seriously shaking and feeling light headed at first...I know it sounds dramatic, but it was a BAD wreck, and I have been SO nervous. Anyway, we rode for about 45 minutes, staying pretty close to home so that I could choose when to be finished. It felt good after awhile. I was able to get my feet out of the pedals safely each time I stopped. I was wearing my new pink helmet (the old one was retired in 3 pieces) and new glasses (I don't know if we ever found the old ones). I'm glad I don't remember the wreck or I'm sure today's ride would not have been possible!!! Russ and I aren't the best at taking our own pics. We need lessons from Jesse and Tracy and Jona and Julia. If you look close, you can see our camera, russ' arm and the Utah flag in my sunglasses.
And here's Kiwi. She took us for a fun walk this evening which ended at the Foster's house, where we had a yummy pancake and chocolate chip cookie dinner (Russ and Chris were at the hospital tonight). Kiwi is OBSESSED with squirrels and I'm afraid one of these days she'll catch one...YUCK!
And a couple more pictures of the big Alabama blizzard of 2009!! It's hard to believe that was just one week ago. I love the second one of our huge pine tree in our front yard.

Yeah for you! I am sooo soo proud of you, it is hard to get back in the saddle after a crash. Way to Go! Great picture too of you and Russ, if you didn't notice ALL of our pics from the DR are with an extended arm. You guys also have a much nicer camera. Love you bunches and want to nuzzle Kiwi and let her run amuk with Sophie! T
PS the last post was amazing too, loved all the photos the kids look so happy!
What can I say, we make some mean pancakes around here--thanks for the cookies!! You guys look great in your riding outfits!
You are so daring. What are the odds it could happen again though, right? You've already checked "major wreck" off your to-do list for this lifetime:)
Way to go Katie! I think all your family does is have fun all the time (okay...I admit the kitchen and the vomit probably aren't that fun...but when you talk about it everything sounds like an adventure). I am so excited to come join in the fun in a couple weeks!
Katie, Some people will do anything for a trip to France. (I hope you and Russ can come). Your ride sounds sucessful but I have to admit...it made my stomach ache reading your blog. I probably remember your crash better than you do, ow. I'm proud of you. Way to go! Here we come l'Alpe D'Huez.
