Ya Wanna Dance???

I just had the stomach churning experience of attending the 6th grade winter dance with Gracie. Let me start by saying that I don't think 6th graders need us to provide any more opportuntities for them to stand in clumps talking about members of the opposite sex. I also think that telling 6th grade girls that they should "dress up" opens a whole new can of worms. I've never seen so much make-up in one place! Fortunately, school dress code still applied so modesty wasn't much of an issue. Gracie looked very cute sans make-up (other then some Chapstick that has a little shine to it). I had to convince her to do something a little different than the ponytail that she wears every day to school (at least she wasn't in her Utah Hoodie or Gap Hoodie or soccer warm-ups--her other items she can never be without).
There were some 6th graders who "went" to the dance together...for the most part I think this meant hanging out once they both arrived at the dance, but I know there was at least one 'couple' who were chauffered by a parent or older sibling (sorry if this offends anyone, but I think that's a pretty bad idea). They wandered around holding hands and looking REALLY BORED!

Gracie danced with friends and I think she enjoyed it. I'm glad she's still more of a kid than a teenager. I hope she'll stay that way just a little longer! I'm also glad that she still wants me to attend her school functions. I wonder how long that will last.

I stood around with a bunch of parents who kept commenting on how they hadn't ever heard any of the music that the DJ was playing. I felt quite pleased that I had heard almost all of it-at aerobics of all places! I must be the cool mom!

First of all, of course you are the cool mom. Second of all, Gracie looks great. I am glad she had fun! Kennedy and I were just looking at some pictures yesterday and saw a picture at Kennedy's 3rd birthday party when Gracie was 6--why do they have to get big so fast!! Anyways, I can't wait to hear more later!
